Amazon FBA Holiday Peak Fees Start October 15: What a Small Seller Really Pays per Unit, and the October 21 Black Friday Deadline (2026)
Short answer: Amazon’s holiday peak FBA fees start today, October 15, 2026, and run through January 14, 2027. Amazon says the increase averages $0.32 per unit. A 3.5% fuel surcharge sits on top. On a $15 item weighing 4 oz, FBA plus the usual 15% referral fee now takes about $5.99, or 40% of the price. The fee is set by the day a unit ships, not the day it was ordered. For Black Friday stock, inventory has to reach Amazon by October 21 or 28, depending on your shipment type.
Starting today, every unit that leaves an Amazon warehouse costs a little more to ship. That’s the holiday peak fulfillment fee. It comes back every October.
For a big brand, 32 cents is a rounding error. For a side-hustle seller moving a few hundred low-priced items in Q4, it can be the difference between a good season and a break-even one.
Here’s what the fee actually is, what it costs on six typical small-seller products, and the two deadlines that matter more than the fee itself.

What is Amazon’s 2026 holiday peak fulfillment fee?
Amazon’s 2026 holiday peak fulfillment fee is a seasonal increase to FBA fulfillment fees that runs from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027 and averages $0.32 per unit, according to Amazon’s Seller Central announcement titled “Same fees, same eligibility, earlier deadlines.”
It applies to more than plain FBA. Amazon lists four programs: FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, Multi-Channel Fulfillment, and Buy with Prime.
The $0.32 is an average across the whole rate card, not a flat add-on. Eightx’s breakdown of Amazon’s example products puts the real range at $0.19 for a small phone case up to $2.81 for a 50-to-70-lb TV.
And the trigger is the ship date. AMZ Prep’s guide to the 2026 rates notes that fees apply when a unit leaves the fulfillment center. An order placed on October 14 that ships on October 15 pays the peak rate.
What Six Small-Seller Products Pay Per Unit
When I compared AMZ Prep’s published 2026 peak rate table against Amazon’s standard 15% referral rate, I worked out the all-in Amazon cut on six products a side-hustle seller might list. This is the number to price against this quarter.
| Example product | Price | Peak FBA fee | With 3.5% surcharge | 15% referral | Amazon’s total cut | % of price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low-price gadget, 4 oz (small standard) | $8.99 | $2.68 | $2.77 | $1.35 | $4.12 | 46% |
| Phone case, 4 oz (small standard) | $15.00 | $3.61 | $3.74 | $2.25 | $5.99 | 40% |
| Candle, 12 oz (small standard) | $24.00 | $3.99 | $4.13 | $3.60 | $7.73 | 32% |
| Kitchen tool set, 1.5 lb (large standard) | $35.00 | $5.73 | $5.93 | $5.25 | $11.18 | 32% |
| Craft kit, 2.5 lb (large standard) | $45.00 | $6.49 | $6.72 | $6.75 | $13.47 | 30% |
| Desk lamp, 3 lb (large standard) | $60.00 | $7.34 | $7.60 | $9.00 | $16.60 | 28% |
Our calculation. Peak FBA fees are non-apparel US rates from AMZ Prep’s 2026–2027 table for each product’s weight and price band. The 3.5% surcharge is applied to the fulfillment fee. Referral fees use the 15% rate Amazon lists for most categories ($0.30 minimum). Excludes storage, ads, inbound shipping, and product cost.
Look at the top two rows. Cheap, light items lose the biggest share of every sale, because the fulfillment fee barely shrinks as the price drops.
Honestly, that’s the whole Q4 story for small sellers. A 32-cent bump matters far more on an $8.99 item than on a $60 one.
Does the 3.5% fuel surcharge stack on top?
Yes. Amazon’s holiday announcement says a 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge applies on top of the 2026 peak fulfillment fees, and AMZ Prep reports the surcharge has applied to US and Canadian FBA fulfillment fees since April 17, 2026.
On its own it’s small. AMZ Prep’s example: on a $5.00 fee, it adds about $0.18.
The catch is that it isn’t seasonal. Eightx’s analysis says the surcharge has no stated end date and applies to non-peak fees too. So when peak season ends on January 14, your fees drop back down, but not all the way to where they were last winter.
Eightx also notes US base fees for standard-size items rose about $0.08 per unit in January 2026. Compare this year’s Q4 numbers to last year’s and you’ll see three layers of increase, not one.

When does inventory have to arrive for Black Friday?
For Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday 2026, Amazon says inventory must arrive by October 14 for AWD, October 21 for FBA shipments with minimal splits, and October 28 for FBA shipments with Amazon-optimized splits to stay eligible for the Prime badge.
The AWD date has already passed. The FBA dates are six and thirteen days away.
Here’s where people get tripped up. “Arrive” means checked in at the warehouse, not handed to the carrier. Ground shipping from your garage to a fulfillment center can easily take a week, and receiving can add more in November.
If you’re also juggling the IRS side of a side hustle this week, today is the deadline in our October 15 tax extension guide. One more reason not to leave the shipment until Friday.
Should you switch some items to FBM for Q4?
Switching an item from FBA to Fulfilled by Merchant for the holiday season avoids Amazon’s peak fulfillment fee and fuel surcharge, but the seller then pays postage and packaging, handles every shipment, and usually loses the Prime badge for that listing.
FBM tends to make sense for:
- Very light, low-priced items where the FBA fee is close to half the price. See the top rows of the table.
- Slow sellers that would sit in Amazon storage through Q4, when storage costs rise.
- Items you already ship elsewhere, like an Etsy or eBay shop, so the packing station is already set up.
FBA usually stays the better deal for:
- Gift-type items where buyers filter for Prime delivery in December.
- Anything that sells several units a day. Your time is worth more than the fee.
- Heavier standard-size items, where your own postage may cost more than the FBA fee.
When I checked Amazon’s announcement again, I noticed it says peak rates now show in the Revenue Calculator and the Fee and Economics Preview Report. Run your top five SKUs through one of those before deciding. Don’t guess from the average.
If you sell in Texas, there’s one more fee wrinkle. Our guide on Texas sales tax on Amazon, eBay, and Etsy fees explains it.
Tips
- Raise prices on your lightest, cheapest items first. That’s where the fee hurts most as a share of each sale.
- Bundle tiny items into two-packs. One fulfillment fee on a $17.98 bundle beats two on $8.99 singles.
- Weigh and measure your packaged product yourself. A box that’s half an ounce over a weight band pays the next row’s fee all quarter.
- Write down your current per-unit fee for each SKU today. Then check it again on January 15 to confirm it dropped back.
Warnings
- The table above uses third-party copies of Amazon’s rate card. Your exact fee depends on Amazon’s measured size and weight. Check Seller Central.
- Apparel and dangerous goods have their own peak tables with different rates.
- Referral fees aren’t 15% everywhere. Some categories use different or tiered rates, per Amazon’s selling fees page.
- Missing the inbound deadline doesn’t stop sales, but listings can lose the Prime badge during the busiest week of the year.
FAQ
When do Amazon holiday peak fees end in 2027?
Amazon’s holiday peak fulfillment fees run through January 14, 2027. Non-peak rates return on January 15, 2027, although the separate 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge has no announced end date.
Does the Amazon peak fee apply to Multi-Channel Fulfillment orders from Shopify or Etsy?
Yes. Amazon lists Multi-Channel Fulfillment among the programs that pay holiday peak fees, along with FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, and Buy with Prime. Orders from other sales channels shipped by Amazon are included.
Is the Amazon peak fee charged when the customer orders or when it ships?
It is based on when the unit leaves Amazon’s fulfillment center. An order placed before October 15 but shipped on or after that date is charged the peak rate.
