Ethereum Glamsterdam Hits Hoodi Testnet October 26

Short answer: Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade is set to activate on the Hoodi test network on October 26, 2026 at 17:42:48 UTC. It already ran on Sepolia on October 6. Mainnet has no date yet. If you hold ETH, nothing changes for you today. Node operators and contract developers are the people who have homework.

Earlier reports named October 27 for Hoodi. That date was tentative and has been replaced.

Here is what is activating, what the two big changes do, and what a testnet date does not promise.

What is activating on Hoodi on October 26?

The Ethereum Foundation scheduled Glamsterdam to activate on the Hoodi testnet at epoch 132,352, slot 4,235,264, which reports timestamp as October 26, 2026 at 17:42:48 UTC, with Hoodi’s gas limit rising to 200 million at the same epoch.

Item Detail
Network Hoodi testnet
Activation Epoch 132,352, slot 4,235,264 (Oct 26, 2026, 17:42:48 UTC)
Gas limit Raised to 200M, matching Sepolia
Sepolia Activated October 6, 2026
Mainnet Not scheduled; listed as to be determined

When I checked three reports on the date, I found that they agree on the epoch and slot. They differ only on the earlier tentative October 27 label.

Glamsterdam reaches the Hoodi test network on October 26, 2026; Sepolia ran it on October 6 and mainnet has no date.

Does an ETH holder need to do anything?

An ETH holder who keeps coins in a wallet or on an exchange does not need to take any action for the October 26, 2026 Hoodi activation, because Hoodi is a test network with no real-value ETH.

Node operators are different. Reports say they must update both execution and consensus clients before the activation. Stakers using a service should ask the provider, not guess.

What do ePBS and block access lists change?

Glamsterdam’s two headline changes are EIP-7732, which builds proposer-builder separation into the consensus protocol, and EIP-7928, which records which accounts and storage slots a block touches so clients can process work in parallel.

In plain terms, ePBS means a proposer commits to a builder’s block payload and the builder reveals it later. It reduces reliance on trusted middleware. Block-level access lists are about speed: if a client knows ahead of time what a block will read, it can validate more of it at once.

Other items in the package include separate metering for state-creation costs (EIP-8037) and updated state-access costs (EIP-8038), plus a higher maximum contract size.

When will Glamsterdam reach Ethereum mainnet?

No mainnet date exists for Glamsterdam as of October 20, 2026; the foundation lists it only as Q4 2026 and to be determined, and one report says developers are aiming for early December.

That early-December line comes from a single source, so I would not plan around it. A testnet that goes smoothly usually leads to more testing, not an immediate launch.

Which smart contracts could be affected?

Smart contracts that rely on fixed gas stipends, hardcoded gas limits or assumptions about remaining gas may need changes after Glamsterdam, because the upgrade changes how state creation, state access, calldata and block gas are counted.

If you are not a developer, the practical meaning is small: some apps may ship updates before mainnet. Watch for notices from the apps you use.

Why a Testnet Date Is Not a Launch Date

Here’s the part people skip. A testnet date is a rehearsal. Prices of altcoins sometimes react to the word upgrade anyway.

Treat any social post that says mainnet is days away as unverified until the foundation says so.

Tips

  • Follow the Ethereum Foundation blog for mainnet scheduling.
  • If you stake through a provider, ask whether they will run both client types updated.
  • Keep a note of the epoch and slot so you can verify the Hoodi fork on a block explorer.

Warnings

  • Fake upgrade airdrop sites appear around every fork. Hoodi activation gives holders nothing to claim.
  • Do not trade a testnet date as if it were a mainnet launch.
  • This is not investment advice.

FAQ

Is Glamsterdam live on Ethereum mainnet?

No. As of October 20, 2026, Glamsterdam has run on Sepolia and is scheduled for Hoodi on October 26. The announcement lists mainnet timing as to be determined.

Do I need to move my ETH for the Hoodi activation?

No. Hoodi is a test network, so wallets and exchange balances on the real Ethereum network are not affected by the October 26, 2026 activation.

Why did the Hoodi date change from October 27?

An earlier September report called October 27 tentative. The foundation later set October 26 at 17:42:48 UTC, according to October 2026 coverage.
