Google AI Plus Loses Gemini Pro: What to Do Before Nov 13
Short answer: Google AI Plus keeps Flash-Lite and Flash. It loses the option to pick Pro. The emails reported so far say November 13, 2026. Your own Google One email sets your date. Test Flash on your real work before you pay four times more.
If your Gemini picker on the $4.99 plan still shows Pro today, enjoy it while it lasts. Google has started emailing Google AI Plus subscribers that manual Pro selection is going away, and the date in the notices reported so far is November 13, 2026.
That leaves about two weeks to decide something specific: is Flash good enough for what you actually use Gemini for, or is Pro worth the jump to Google AI Pro? This guide walks through what changes, how to find your own date, and a quick way to test before you spend money.

What exactly changes for Google AI Plus?
As of October 30, 2026, Google’s Gemini help page lists Flash-Lite and Flash, but not Pro, as the models available to Google AI Plus subscribers once the change reaches their account (support.google.com).
AI Pro and AI Ultra keep all three models. Accounts without a plan get Auto, which Google says sends most prompts to Flash-Lite and may send prompts that need deeper reasoning to Flash or Pro.
| Plan (personal account) | Flash-Lite | Flash | Pro | Usage limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No plan | Auto picks | Auto picks | Auto picks | Standard |
| Google AI Plus | Yes | Yes | No | 2x standard |
| Google AI Pro | Yes | Yes | Yes | 4x standard |
| Google AI Ultra | Yes | Yes | Yes | 5x or 20x AI Pro |
Source: Google Help, “Changes to Gemini model access and limits,” checked October 30, 2026.
When I checked the help page, I noticed that the AI Plus row has two checkmarks and an empty Pro column. That empty cell is the whole story. The Google One email quoted by 9to5Google says selecting Pro in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search “will only be available to Google AI Pro subscribers and above.”
So this isn’t only about the Gemini app. AI Mode in Search loses the Pro option too.
How do you find your own cutoff date?
A Google AI Plus subscriber finds their cutoff date in an email from Google, because the Gemini help page says AI Plus users “should receive an email that explains when these changes will take effect” rather than giving one date for everyone.
- Open the Gmail account tied to your Google AI Plus subscription.
- Search for from:Google “AI Plus” and also “Pro model”. The reported notices are signed by the Google One team.
- Note the date in the email. The ones posted publicly say November 13, 2026.
- Can’t find it? Check the Promotions and Updates tabs before assuming you were skipped.
- Still nothing? Open Gemini and look at the model picker. While Pro still appears there, the change hasn’t reached your account yet.
Honestly, step 4 is where most missing emails turn up.
What happens to chats that used Gemini Pro?
Gemini chats that a Google AI Plus subscriber started with Pro stay in history, and the Google One email quoted by 9to5Google says they “can be continued with a different model” after the cutoff.
In practice, a long project chat you built up with Pro keeps its history, but new replies come from Flash. If a chat matters, finish the hard part before your date, or copy the key prompts and outputs into a doc so you can rerun them elsewhere.

How much more does keeping Pro cost?
Keeping Pro selection means moving from Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month to Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month in the US, using the prices reported by 9to5Google on October 14, 2026, which works out to $15 more each month.
| Cost check (US prices as reported) | Google AI Plus | Google AI Pro | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $4.99 | $19.99 | +$15.00 |
| 12 months | $59.88 | $239.88 | +$180.00 |
| Pro model selection | No (after cutoff) | Yes | — |
| Usage limit (Google Help) | 2x standard | 4x standard | Double |
I found that the price gap looks smaller once the usage limit is in the picture. AI Pro doubles the allowance on top of adding Pro. If you already hit the AI Plus limit some weeks, you’re paying $15 for two things, not one.
Prices vary by country, and Google’s own subscriptions page shows local currency. Check the exact figure in your Google One account before you confirm.
How do you test whether Flash is enough?
The fastest way for a Google AI Plus subscriber to test Flash is to rerun three to five of their own recent Pro prompts on Flash before the cutoff and compare the answers side by side.
- Pick prompts from your history that you actually reuse: a weekly report, a code fix, a long document summary.
- Switch the picker to Flash and paste the same prompt into a new chat.
- Set Flash to the high effort level. Google’s help page says each model offers low, medium and high effort, and higher effort gives more thorough answers but uses more of your limit.
- Compare the two answers. Mark each one “same,” “fine with a re-prompt,” or “not good enough.”
- Count the “not good enough” results. That number is your answer.
If you’ve ever run the same prompt twice and got a different answer, you know one run proves little. Run the weak ones a second time before you decide.
Most people skip the effort setting. Don’t — it’s free on the plan you already pay for.
Upgrade, stay, or cancel: which fits you?
A Google AI Plus subscriber should only upgrade to AI Pro if Pro answers are clearly better on tasks they repeat every week, because the jump costs about $180 a year at the reported US prices.
| What your Flash test showed | Sensible move | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 0 of 5 prompts worse | Stay on AI Plus | You keep Flash and the 2x limit for $4.99 |
| 1 or 2 worse, fixable with a re-prompt | Stay, use high effort | Re-prompting costs time, not $15 a month |
| 3 or more clearly worse on weekly work | Upgrade to AI Pro | You also get the 4x limit and Gemini 4 Argon |
| You mostly used Gemini for storage perks | Check what else the plan includes | Model access may not be the reason you pay |
| You already pay for another AI chatbot | Consider cancelling | Paying twice for similar tools adds up |
When I compared Google’s model table with the Argon rollout, I noticed that AI Pro now bundles Gemini 4 Argon as well, which our post on Gemini 4 Argon Is Now in Google AI Pro covers in detail. If you’re weighing Gemini against other paid chatbots, ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, or Google AI Pro lays out the trade-offs.
How do you upgrade or cancel the plan?
A Google AI Plus subscriber upgrades from inside Gemini by opening Settings & help at the bottom of gemini.google.com and choosing the upgrade option, according to Google’s plan management help page.
- Upgrade: gemini.google.com, then Settings & help, then the available upgrade option. Follow the on-screen steps.
- Change plan: Google One on a computer, then Manage membership, then Change membership plan. Pick from Upgrade options or Downgrade options and confirm the price.
- Cancel: gemini.google.com, then Settings & help, then Manage subscription. That opens Google One, where you click Cancel membership.
The help page does not say how a mid-cycle upgrade is billed. Look at the price shown on the confirmation screen, not the headline monthly price.
Tips
- Run your Flash test this week, while Pro is still in the picker for comparison.
- Export or copy important Pro chat outputs before your cutoff date.
- Try the high effort setting on Flash before deciding it falls short.
- Set a calendar reminder for the day before your email date.
Warnings
- November 13 comes from reported emails; your account may have a different date.
- AI Mode in Search loses Pro selection too, not just the Gemini app.
- Prices quoted here are US prices from 9to5Google; your country may differ.
- Cancelling ends the other plan benefits too; Google’s help page lists what you lose when a plan ends.
FAQ
Will Google AI Plus get cheaper after it loses Pro?
No price cut had been announced as of October 30, 2026. The Google One email quoted by 9to5Google only says Pro selection moves to AI Pro and above, and that you can manage or cancel the subscription at any time.
Can a Google AI Plus subscriber still get Pro answers through Auto?
Google’s help page describes Auto, which can route deeper-reasoning prompts to Flash or Pro, as the default for users without a Google AI plan. It does not say AI Plus subscribers get Pro through Auto, so do not count on it after your cutoff date.
Is November 13 the date for every Google AI Plus account?
Not necessarily. Google’s help page says AI Plus subscribers receive an email explaining when the change takes effect for them, and November 13, 2026 is the date shown in the emails reported so far. Your own email is the date that counts.
