Fat Cat Card: Which Purchases Earn No Cashback on Jupiter
Short answer: Jupiter Card pays 2% cashback, capped at $100 a month. But Jupiter’s rewards page excludes ATM cash, QR payments, P2P transfers, fees, financial services, crypto purchases, gambling and government payments. Spend $2,000 with $1,000 of that in excluded categories and you earn $20, not $40. Sort your month before you count on the number.
A crypto card’s headline rate is a ceiling. What you actually earn depends on what you swipe it for.
Jupiter’s rewards page says “all qualifying card purchases” earn cashback, then lists what does not qualify. That list is long, and a few items catch people who use a card as their main account. Below is a worked month, a sorting table, and a short routine for finding the missing cashback.

Which Jupiter purchases earn no cashback?
Jupiter Card excludes ATM withdrawals and cash disbursements, P2P transfers, QR payments, refunded or disputed transactions, fees and charges, financial services, quasi-cash such as cryptocurrency purchases, gambling and government payments, according to Jupiter’s Rewards and Referrals page as read on November 3, 2026.
The same list also excludes “stored-value loads, and account funding transactions”. That is the closest match to topping up another wallet or app from your card. Transactions flagged by fraud or abuse controls are excluded too.
When I checked the page, I found that it does not define “qualifying” beyond that list, and it does not say how non-USD purchases are treated. So the table below is built from the exclusions only.
| Purchase type | Earns Jupiter cashback? | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Groceries, restaurants, subscriptions, online shops | Yes (ordinary purchases) | “All qualifying card purchases” |
| ATM cash withdrawal | No | Listed exclusion |
| QR payment | No | Listed exclusion |
| P2P transfer | No | Listed exclusion |
| Tax or other government payment | No | Listed exclusion |
| Brokerage, exchange or crypto purchase | No | Financial services and quasi-cash |
| Loading another wallet or prepaid account | No | Stored-value and account funding |
| Card fees, such as a physical card order | No | Fees and charges |
| A purchase you later refund or dispute | No | Refunded, reversed or disputed |
How much cashback is lost in a real month?
A Jupiter Card holder who runs $2,000 through the card in one month, with $1,000 of it in excluded categories, earns about $20 at the 2% base rate instead of the $40 the headline suggests.
Here is one illustrative month. The amounts are made up for the math. Swap in your own statement.
| Item | Amount | Counts? | Cashback at 2% |
|---|---|---|---|
| Groceries and dining | $900 | Yes | $18.00 |
| Transit and subscriptions | $100 | Yes | $2.00 |
| Income tax payment | $400 | No (government) | $0.00 |
| Exchange deposit | $300 | No (financial services) | $0.00 |
| QR payment at a market | $150 | No (QR) | $0.00 |
| ATM withdrawal | $150 | No (cash) | $0.00 |
| Total | $2,000 | $1,000 counts | $20.00 |

Half the spend, half the reward. The effective rate on the whole $2,000 is 1.0%, not 2%.
It gets worse if you read the headline as a plan. A budget that counts on $40 a month is $20 short before anything else goes wrong.
Where do the cap and the 4% tier fit in?
Jupiter’s base cashback is 2% up to $100 a month, so the cap fills at $5,000 of eligible spend, and the 4% tier raises the cap to $200 at the same $5,000 of eligible spend, per Jupiter’s Rewards and Referrals page, November 2026.
The cap counts eligible spend only. Excluded purchases never touch it, which means they neither help nor hurt it. They simply earn nothing.
The page says the cap applies to your account as a whole, across all cards under the same Global ID, so a second Jupiter card does not add room.
To reach 4%, you need at least 2 qualifying referrals in the previous calendar month. A qualifying referral is a friend who completes KYC and spends at least $50 on their card. One referral does not unlock it.
| Eligible monthly spend | At 2% (cap $100) | At 4% (cap $200) |
|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | $20 | $40 |
| $3,000 | $60 | $120 |
| $5,000 | $100 (cap reached) | $200 (cap reached) |
| $8,000 | $100 | $200 |
Why is my Jupiter cashback missing after a purchase?
A Jupiter Card purchase shows no cashback yet when it has not fully settled, because Jupiter credits cashback to the Rewards balance, held in USDC, only after the transaction fully settles; until then a “Processing” entry appears in the Rewards tab.
So check three things in order.
- Is there a “Processing” line in the Rewards tab? Then wait. Nothing is wrong yet.
- Does the purchase fall in an excluded category from the table above? A tax portal, a brokerage or a QR payment will never pay.
- Was it refunded or disputed? Those are excluded too, even if the original charge looked normal.
Here is where people get tripped up. Rewards sit in their own balance. Jupiter says you can move any amount to your card balance at any time with no fees, but direct withdrawal from Rewards to an external wallet is not available.
A monthly sorting routine
- Export or list last month’s card transactions.
- Mark each line as eligible or excluded using the table.
- Add up the eligible total. Multiply by 2%, or 4% if you hit the referral condition.
- Compare with the $100 or $200 cap.
- Move tax, brokerage and cash needs to another payment method if cashback matters to you.
For the cost side, our guide to Jupiter Physical Card: What Ordering One Really Costs works through the card fee, and Fat Cat Card: How to Split Spend Across Two Crypto Cards shows how a second card changes the total.
Tips
- Pay your day-to-day spending on the card and keep tax or brokerage payments off it.
- Re-read the Rewards page each quarter. The exclusion list can change.
- Count only eligible dollars when you compare two cards.
Warnings
- The Rewards page does not say how non-USD purchases are treated. Check your own statement.
- Cashback is paid in USDC to a Rewards balance, not to a bank account.
- Rates, caps and exclusions are the provider’s terms and may change without notice.
FAQ
Does paying taxes with a Jupiter Card earn cashback?
No. Government payments are on Jupiter’s exclusion list, so a tax payment earns nothing even though it counts as card spend. It does not fill the monthly cap either.
Do referral rewards count toward the $100 cap?
No. Jupiter says referral rewards do not count toward the monthly cashback cap. The $10 referrer reward and the friend’s $20 reward are separate from the 2% cashback.
Can I withdraw Jupiter cashback straight to my wallet?
Not directly. Cashback lands in a USDC Rewards balance, and you can move any amount to your card balance with no fee, but Jupiter says withdrawal from Rewards to an external wallet is not available.
