AliExpress: How to Compare It With Temu and Amazon

Short answer: Compare the after-sale rules, not just the price. AliExpress gives you 15 days from receipt for free returns and damage claims. Amazon gives 30 days from delivery for most items. Temu’s US policy gives up to 90 days from purchase. On AliExpress, a change-of-mind return is paid by you. Check which items are excluded before you order.

Three tabs, three prices for what looks like the same phone stand. The lowest number tends to win the click, and that’s the part worth slowing down on.

The price gap between AliExpress, Temu and Amazon is usually a few dollars. The gap in what happens when the order goes wrong can be much bigger. This comparison uses each company’s own policy pages, read on October 30, 2026, and turns them into a check you can run before paying.

What This Compares

How long do you have to return or report a problem?

AliExpress’s Buyer Protection page gives 15 days from receiving an item to report that it doesn’t match the description, arrived damaged or is short, and offers its Free Return service within 15 days of receipt.

The other two run longer. Amazon’s return policy page says most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Temu’s US Return and Refund Policy says the first return of an order is free within 90 days from the date of purchase, with some exceptions.

Rule (as of Oct 30, 2026) AliExpress Temu (US) Amazon
Main return window Free Return within 15 days of receipt Within 90 days of purchase (most items) Within 30 days of delivery (most items)
Clock starts at Receipt Purchase Delivery
Electronics Same 15-day rule on the page 45, 60 or 90 days, set by seller Check the product page
Item never arrived Covered within the guaranteed delivery window Refund request from order page A-to-z Guarantee for third-party sellers
Ship the return by Not stated on the page Postmarked within 14 days of request Within 14 days of starting it (A-to-z page)

When I compared the three pages, I noticed that each one starts the clock at a different moment. Temu counts from purchase, Amazon and AliExpress from delivery or receipt. On a slow international shipment, that difference matters more than the headline number.

Put the AliExpress date in your phone calendar the day the parcel lands. Fifteen days goes fast.

Who pays return shipping when you change your mind?

An AliExpress buyer who returns an item because of a change of mind pays the return shipping fee, according to the steps on AliExpress’s Buyer Protection page.

Temu’s US policy makes the first return of one or more items from each order free. For the second and later returns from the same order, it deducts $7.99 plus tax from the refund. Amazon’s A-to-z page shows that for third-party items returned for “any other reason,” you get the product cost back, but not the original or return shipping, and restocking fees may be deducted. Clothing, shoes, jewelry and watches are the exception there.

Change-of-mind return AliExpress Temu (US) Amazon third-party seller (A-to-z table)
Product cost refunded Yes, if eligible Yes, if eligible Yes
Return shipping Paid by you Free on first return per order; $7.99 plus tax after Not refunded (except clothing, shoes, jewelry, watches)
Original shipping and import tax Not stated on the page Not refunded unless Temu’s or seller’s fault Not refunded (same exceptions)

This is where a cheap order quietly gets expensive. Paying to ship a $6 item back overseas can cost more than the item.

How fast does the refund come back?

AliExpress says an eligible return is fully refunded once warehouse quality control is complete, and lets you take the money as an AliExpress fast refund bonus or to your original payment method.

Temu’s US policy says card refunds take 5 to 14 business days, up to 30, depending on your bank. Amazon’s return policy says it can take up to 30 days for Amazon to receive and process a return.

As of October 30, 2026, return windows were 15 days from receipt on AliExpress, 30 days from delivery on Amazon for most items, and up to 90 days from purchase on Temu US (company policy pages).

One thing to watch on both AliExpress and Temu: the in-app refund options. A store credit or bonus can be faster, but it keeps your money on that platform. If you’re not sure you’ll shop there again, pick the original payment method.

Which items can’t be returned at all?

AliExpress excludes prohibited items, underwear, socks, food, batteries and customized items from its return policy, according to the notes on its Buyer Protection page.

Temu’s US policy lists its own exclusions, including worn or washed clothing, groceries and some customized products, and lets sellers mark items non-returnable. Amazon tells shoppers to check return eligibility on the product detail page before ordering.

Honestly, this is the step most people skip. Batteries are the one that surprises people on AliExpress, because so many gadgets ship with one.

How do you compare one product across all three?

A fair AliExpress vs Temu vs Amazon comparison adds the item price, shipping and import charges shown at checkout, then asks what a return would cost if the item disappoints.

  1. Find the same item, same variant and same quantity on each site.
  2. Go to checkout on each one and note the total, including shipping and any import charges.
  3. Check the delivery estimate. On AliExpress, the guaranteed delivery window on the order page is what the protection program uses.
  4. Open the return section on each product page. Note the window and any exclusion.
  5. Ask one question: if this goes back, who pays to ship it?
  6. Only then compare totals. If the gap is a dollar or two, the easier return usually wins.

I found that the checkout total, not the listing price, is the only number worth comparing. Our guide to How to Track Price History Before You Buy Online covers how to tell whether any of those prices is a real low.

When does AliExpress come out ahead?

AliExpress tends to make sense for small, low-risk items you are unlikely to return, where its price is clearly lower and its guaranteed delivery window fits your timeline.

Your situation Leans toward Why, based on the policy pages
Cheap accessory, you know the size or spec AliExpress Return risk is low, so the short window matters less
Clothing you may need to swap Temu or Amazon Longer windows; AliExpress change-of-mind returns cost you shipping
Needed by a fixed date Amazon Domestic delivery; check the date shown at checkout
Gadget with a battery Amazon or Temu AliExpress lists batteries as not returnable
Several items you may return separately AliExpress or Amazon Temu charges $7.99 plus tax per extra return from one order

Tips

  • Screenshot the product page, including the return note, before you pay.
  • Record and photograph the unboxing of anything expensive; it helps with not-as-described claims.
  • Keep all items from one Temu order together if you might return more than one.
  • Choose refunds to your card unless you will definitely shop on the same platform again.

Warnings

  • AliExpress’s 15-day window counts from receipt, not from when you get around to opening the box.
  • Change-of-mind returns on AliExpress cost you the return shipping.
  • Policies differ by country; these are the pages served for the US and global sites on October 30, 2026.
  • Sellers on all three platforms can set stricter rules on specific items. The product page wins.

FAQ

Can I return an AliExpress item just because I changed my mind?
