Folded secondhand clothes ready to list for resale

Vinted’s October 8 Terms Update: What US Sellers Face

Short answer: Vinted’s updated terms took effect October 8, 2026 in the US, UK and Australia. The buyer charge is now called the “Vinted fee.” Sellers get 48 hours instead of 24 to answer a counterfeit finding. US sellers still cannot use Vinted for professional selling.

The calculation of the fee did not change, according to the report these facts come from.

If you resell clothes on Vinted for a few hundred dollars a month, none of this will change your margins. Two things might change your week, though.

One is a shorter fuse on counterfeit claims. The other is a thinner appeal process if your account gets restricted.

Quick Navigation

What changed with the Buyer Protection fee?

Vinted’s terms effective October 8, 2026 rename the mandatory buyer charge from the “Buyer Protection fee” to the “Vinted fee,” which appears in the listing price breakdown and is added to the order total at checkout.

According to Value Added Resource, the new terms do not show a change in how that fee is calculated. Refund rights that used to sit under Buyer Protection now live in a separate Refund Policy covering items that are lost, damaged, significantly not as described, or counterfeit.

For a seller, the fee is paid by the buyer. Third-party fee guides I checked still describe US sellers as paying no commission on Vinted. Treat those as secondary and look at your own listing breakdown.

How long do sellers have to answer a counterfeit claim?

A Vinted seller now has 48 hours, up from 24, to prove an item’s authenticity after Vinted raises a counterfeit finding, according to the October 8 terms as reported by Value Added Resource.

When I compared the US and UK changes, I found that the harshest piece is UK only. In the UK, Vinted may keep a verified-counterfeit item for six weeks while the seller challenges the finding, and may dispose of it if the seller gives no satisfactory proof. That disposal language does not appear in the US or Australian terms.

Seller packing a parcel to ship a resale order
Vinted’s October 8, 2026 terms give sellers 48 hours, up from 24, to answer a counterfeit finding.

Honestly, the 48 hours is the part that matters most to people who sell branded items. Receipts, order confirmations and tags are what you will be asked for.

Can Vinted restrict an account more easily now?

Vinted’s October 2026 enforcement section is much shorter than the earlier version and requires only written notice and information about the right to appeal, as Value Added Resource reads it.

The longer Australian wording had required a detailed statement of the facts, the legal grounds, whether automated means were used, and the options for recourse. The newer text lists actions that include warnings, removing listings, blocking account features and temporary or permanent blocks.

The US arbitration clause, class action waiver and jury trial waiver all remain. Existing users get no new opt-out window.

This part trips a lot of people up. A short notice does not mean a short list of rights, but it does mean you may need to ask for the details.

Can US sellers run Vinted as a business?

US sellers still cannot run Vinted as a business, because the US terms say the platform must be used “for your personal benefit only and not for any professional purposes,” and Vinted Pro is not offered in the United States.

Vinted Pro is listed in eleven European markets only, per the report. The commercial selling rules sit in Vinted’s catalog rules page.

If your closet clear-out has turned into sourcing and reselling, that is a platform-fit problem, not a fee problem. It is one reason sellers add a second marketplace.

What changed and what stayed the same?

Four items changed on October 8, 2026 and four stayed put, based on the report’s summary of the US, UK and Australia terms.

Item Status after Oct 8, 2026
Buyer charge name Changed: now the “Vinted fee”
Counterfeit response window Changed: 24 to 48 hours
Account enforcement wording Changed: shorter notice requirements
Refund rights Changed: moved to a separate Refund Policy
US payment processor Unchanged: Adyen
Professional selling in the US Unchanged: personal use only
US arbitration and waivers Unchanged
AI and machine-learning language Unchanged: already in US terms

Seller Habits Worth Adopting This Week

Nothing here needs a big overhaul. A few small habits make a 48-hour window survivable.

Keep proof of purchase for any branded item you list, in a folder you can reach from your phone. Photograph tags and serial numbers before you ship. Check your listing price breakdown once so you know what buyers see.

That’s about ten minutes. Do it before the first dispute, not during it.

Tips

  • Save receipts and order emails for every brand-name item you resell.
  • Screenshot your listing, with its price breakdown, on the day you post it.
  • Read the Refund Policy once so you know what buyers can claim.
  • Keep a second marketplace account in case one account is restricted.

Warnings

  • Do not list items you cannot document as authentic.
  • Selling in volume under a personal-use account risks restriction in the US.
  • Check the terms for your country. UK rules differ from US rules.
  • Income from reselling can be taxable. This is not tax or legal advice.
