How to Cancel DashPass and Get a Refund (2026)

Short answer: You cancel DashPass under Manage DashPass in the app or on doordash.com. Do it at least one day before the renewal date. In the US the fee is normally not refunded, but your benefits run to the end of the period you paid for. A refund is possible in the first 48 hours of your first paid period. Québec and British Columbia annual members can get prorated money back.

DashPass renews on its own, and the charge usually lands on a day nobody is watching.

The rules for getting that money back are written down in DoorDash’s Consumer Terms and Conditions, the version effective October 16, 2026. They’re stricter than most people expect. This walk-through covers the cancel button, the deadline, the few refund windows that exist, and the math on whether the annual plan was a good idea in the first place.

How do I cancel DashPass in the app or on the website?

You cancel DashPass from the “Manage DashPass” page in the DoorDash app or on doordash.com, according to DoorDash’s help article on cancelling DashPass.

  1. Open the DoorDash app or go to doordash.com and sign in.
  2. Tap the account icon.
  3. Open “Manage DashPass”.
  4. Tap “Cancel Membership”.
  5. Pick a reason from the list.
  6. Tap “Cancel DashPass” to confirm.
  7. Tap “Got it” on the confirmation screen.

Then check your inbox. DoorDash says it sends an email confirming the cancellation. Keep it.

That email is your proof if a charge shows up later.

The same page offers “Pause Membership” instead of cancel. Pausing is a different action, so read the screen before you tap. If your goal is to stop paying, pick cancel.

Does DashPass refund you when you cancel?

A US DashPass subscription fee is non-refundable when you cancel, and you keep DashPass benefits through the end of the period you already paid for, under section 13(f) of DoorDash’s Consumer Terms effective October 16, 2026.

That’s the default. Cancelling stops future charges only. It doesn’t claw back the current one.

There is one narrow way out for new members, and it comes in two flavours:

Your situation What the October 2026 terms say Is the refund guaranteed?
You came off a free trial or promo, and cancel within 48 hours of your first paid period You may cancel and receive a full refund of the DashPass fee (as applicable) Written as a right
First subscription period, cancelled within 48 hours, no DashPass-eligible order placed DoorDash may refund the fee At DoorDash’s sole discretion
Cancelled later in the period No refund; benefits continue to the end of the period No refund
Free period, cancelled before it ends You are not charged Nothing to refund

When I checked the wording closely, I noticed that the second row has a condition people miss. Placing even one DashPass-eligible order in those 48 hours takes you outside it.

So if you signed up by accident, don’t “use it once since you paid.” That order can cost you the refund.

Phone and calendar used to track a subscription renewal date
DoorDash’s Consumer Terms (effective October 16, 2026) require cancelling DashPass at least one day before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.

What is the last day to cancel before DashPass renews?

You must cancel DashPass at least one day before the next renewal date; DoorDash’s own example in its October 2026 Consumer Terms is that a January 10 renewal must be cancelled by 11:59:59 pm on January 9.

The help article says the same thing in different words: cancel 24 hours before your next scheduled payment.

Here’s where people get tripped up. They cancel on the renewal day itself, see the confirmation, and still get billed. The cancel worked. It just took effect after the next period started.

Renewal date (example) Cancel by Result if you cancel on the renewal date
January 10 11:59:59 pm, January 9 Charged for the next period
March 1 11:59:59 pm, February 28 Charged for the next period
Annual plan renewing November 15 11:59:59 pm, November 14 Charged a full year

Find your renewal date on the Manage DashPass page and set a phone reminder two days earlier. Two days, not one. Time zones and late-night sessions eat the margin.

Who can get a prorated DashPass refund?

A prorated DashPass refund is available to a few groups named in DoorDash’s terms and partner pages, and a standard US annual member who simply changes their mind is not one of them.

  • Québec annual members. The October 2026 terms say Canada consumers in Québec who cancel an annual plan may request a prorated refund by calling support at 855-431-0459.
  • British Columbia annual members. If you cancel after the renewal, you get a prorated refund for the unused part of the renewed term, issued within 15 days of cancelling.
  • People DoorDash cancels. If DoorDash cancels your subscription, the terms promise a pro rata refund for the time left. That doesn’t apply if DoorDash terminated your account for a breach.
  • Switching to a partner plan. DoorDash’s DashPass for Amazon Prime members page says an existing paid DashPass is cancelled when you activate that offer, and annual subscribers get the unused part of the year back. The page currently describes the Amazon.ca Prime offer in Canada.

If you’re in the US and none of those fit, the honest answer is that the remaining months are yours to use, not to refund.

Monthly or annual: the cancel-risk math

DashPass costs $9.99 a month or $96 a year plus tax in the US, according to the plan prices printed in DoorDash’s Consumer Terms effective October 16, 2026, so the annual plan only beats monthly if you keep it for about 10 months or more.

Because the annual fee isn’t refunded in the US, the real question is how long you’ll actually keep it. I worked it out from those two list prices:

Months you end up using DashPass Monthly plan total Annual plan total Cheaper choice
3 $29.97 $96.00 Monthly, by $66.03
6 $59.94 $96.00 Monthly, by $36.06
9 $89.91 $96.00 Monthly, by $6.09
10 $99.90 $96.00 Annual, by $3.90
12 $119.88 $96.00 Annual, by $23.88

The break-even is 9.6 months ($96 divided by $9.99). Taxes aren’t included and vary by state.

When I compared the two columns, I found that the annual plan’s saving is small next to the cost of quitting early. Drop it after six months and you’ve paid $36.06 more than monthly would have cost. If you’ve ever bought a gym membership in January, you know which way that usually goes.

One extra wrinkle: the terms say US annual members can activate Max Basic With Ads at no extra cost. That perk is tied to the annual plan, so plan on losing it once the annual period ends.

Charged after you cancelled? Your next three moves

If DashPass charges you after a cancellation that went through on time, the US Federal Trade Commission’s guide to getting out of free trials and auto-renewals says to keep your cancellation records and dispute the charge with your card company if the business won’t fix it.

  1. Check the dates first. Compare the cancellation email’s timestamp to your renewal date. If you cancelled on the renewal day, the charge is valid under the terms.
  2. Contact DoorDash support. Chat is in the app, and the help center lists 855-431-0459. Have the confirmation email ready.
  3. Dispute only a real error. If you cancelled in time and support won’t reverse it, a card dispute is the backstop. Our guide on Chargeback vs. Refund Request: Which Gets Your Money Back explains which route usually works faster.

Most people skip step one and regret it. A dispute over a valid charge tends to go nowhere.

Tips

  • Set a reminder two days before the renewal date shown on Manage DashPass.
  • If a sign-up was a mistake, cancel inside 48 hours and don’t place a DashPass-eligible order in that window.
  • Save the cancellation confirmation email until after the next billing date passes.
  • Unsure you’ll keep it 10 months? Pick the monthly plan.

Warnings

  • Pause and cancel are different buttons on the same page. Pausing doesn’t end the membership.
  • DashPass Gift Subscription purchases are final and non-refundable under the October 2026 terms.
  • Prices and policies change. The figures here come from DoorDash’s terms effective October 16, 2026; check the live page before you rely on them.

If DashPass is one of several renewals you’re trimming this month, the same deadline logic applies to How to Cancel Walmart+ and Actually Get a Refund (2026). Set the reminder, cancel early, save the email.

FAQ

Can I get a DashPass refund if I already used it this month?

Usually not in the United States. DoorDash’s Consumer Terms effective October 16, 2026 say the subscription fee is non-refundable after you cancel, and the 48-hour discretionary refund only applies if you have not placed a DashPass-eligible order in that window.

Does canceling DashPass end my benefits right away?

No, a paid plan keeps its benefits until the end of the current billing period. DoorDash’s help center says benefits end immediately only if you cancel during a free period.

What happens to DashPass if I switch to the Amazon Prime offer?

Your paid DashPass is cancelled when you activate the Prime offer, and DoorDash’s Prime partnership page says you get a prorated refund for the unused part of the billing period. That page currently describes the offer for Amazon.ca Prime members in Canada.
